Anglican Relief and Development in Zimbabwe (ARDeZ)

The Anglican Church in Zimbabwe has developed an arm called the Anglican Relief and Development in Zimbabwe (ARDeZ). The ARDeZ does some relief work, especially in response to catastrophic events and disasters. ARDeZ also has community development projects and programs in the five dioceses. Through ARDeZ, ACZ endeavors to fulfill its spiritual mandate and obligation by ministering to the people holistically. The mandate of ARDeZ is working towards creating a healthy, poverty-free, and just nation where all Zimbabweans can thrive and fulfill their God-given potential.

Strategy priority areas of ARDeZ are as follows:

  • i. Food Security (Poverty alleviation)
  • ii. Health
  • iii. Tackling Gender Based Violence
  • iv. Sustainable Employment Creation
  • v. Environment/ Climate change

National Shrines

ACZ has two national Shrines on record which are:

  • Bernard Mzeki Shrine: Located in Marondera and it is in the Diocese of Harare.
  • Shearly Cripps: Located in Chivhu in the Diocese of Masvingo

Bishop Gaul College


ACZ runs the Bishop Gaul College in Mt Pleasant, Harare. The mandate of the college is to specifically train clergy for the church as well as a training Christian leaders in general regardless of their denominational affiliation. The College has about 28 students resident and 2 batches of block classes close to about 45 students. To date the church has a record of 262 Clergy and a wholping 742 churches in all of Zimbabwe.
USPG periodical and MU in UK give the college some Grants for specific and notable projects such as the kitchen upgrade.

Education Departments

The Anglican Council of Zimbabwe is one of the contributors in offering education to the future of the nation. They say education is the key to success and we totally agree. With statistics showing that we have at least 98 schools across the country which are broken down to 15 Boarding Schools, 18 Secondary Schools and 65 Primary Schools which are offering education to the public. We are proud that one of our school was the first secondary school for Africans in Zimbabwe, St Augustines Mission Penhalonga (Tsambe) in Manicaland. The Anglican Church through its Mission Schools has been nurturing young minds for more than 124 years now in Zimbabwe.

Health Department

The Health Department of The Anglican Council of Zimbabwe plays a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of communities across the nation. With a network of 10 clinics and 2 hospitals, our health services are strategically positioned to provide accessible and quality healthcare to all.
These facilities offer a wide range of medical services, including preventative care, maternal and child health, and emergency services, ensuring that individuals and families receive the comprehensive care they need. By fostering partnerships with local and international health organizations, the department not only addresses immediate health concerns but also promotes long-term health education and awareness. Our commitment to serving the public reflects our mission to uplift lives through compassionate healthcare, making a significant impact on the overall health outcomes of the communities we serve.

Orphanages Run by the Anglican Dioceses

The Anglican Council of Zimbabwe is deeply committed to supporting vulnerable children through its network of orphanages. These facilities provide not only shelter but also a nurturing environment where children can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. Below is an overview of the orphanages operated by the Anglican Church, each dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of the children they serve.
1. Shearly Cripps Orphanage
Located in Bhora Growthpoint 50 km from Harare along the Harare Nyamapanda Highway, Shearly Cripps Orphanage is a sanctuary for vulnerable children.It is run by the Diocese of Harare. The orphanage provides a safe and loving home, ensuring that each child receives proper care, education, and emotional support. With a focus on holistic development, the facility aims to empower children to become responsible and productive members of society.
2. Bonda Mission Chilrens Home
The Bonda Mission Children's Home is located in Mutasa, Zimbabwe, approximately 17 km northwest of Mutare, the fourth-largest city in the country The Bonda Mission Children's Home is one of the many orphanages in Zimbabwe. It provides care and support for vulnerable children, ensuring they have access to basic needs and education
